Now hiring: program manager

Global Garden Refugee Training Farm is Hiring a Program Manager to develop and implement outreach, educational, fun, and fundraising events for refugee families and our neighboring community.  

Global Garden Refugee Training Farm is 100 refugee families who grow vegetables at Sacramento & Lawrence in Albany Park, Chicago.  Our mission is to improve access to fresh vegetables for newly arrived refugee families and their urban neighbors; feed the souls of displaced farmers through reconnection with the soil and food production; provide supplemental income for participating refugee farmers; and foster new, refugee-operated farms.

This is a Full-time, year-round, grant-funded position.  Employment beyond one year is dependent upon successful fulfillment of grant expectations.  Interested candidates should send a writing sample and their cover letter and resume to Linda Seyler at globalgardenfarm@gmail.com no later than April 15, 2022.

Responsibilities:
Community Outreach and Programs
  • Develop calendar of events and coordinate implementation of events including delivery and/or recruitment of presenters, performers, and volunteers
Volunteer Recruitment and Management
  • Recruit and screen volunteers for best match of interests and needs
  • Work with Farm Manager and other staff for effective use of volunteer contributions
  • Maintain records of volunteer hours
  • Plan and implement volunteer recognition
Community Outreach and Programs
  • Develop calendar of events and coordinate implementation of events including delivery and/or recruitment of presenters, performers, and volunteers
  • Events will include open house days, cultural events, cooking classes and other programs for refugees and our non-refugee neighbors, farm tours.
Oversight of Family Garden Plots
  • Oversee enrollment of refugee families who want a community garden plot
  • Provide oversight of the community garden plots and use of shared resources
  • Communicate and respectfully enforce compliance with garden rules
  • Solicit feedback and questions from gardeners to develop and deliver classes, celebrations, and other events of interest to refugee families
Fundraising
  • Lead planning, promotion, and implementation of fundraising events
  • Assist with annual online fundraising campaign
  • Maintain and update donor database
General
  • Assist with GGRTF’s social media presence
  • Collaborate with staff and farmers in scheduling and planning activities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations in the GGRTF community
  • Communicate all developments, questions, and concerns to the Executive Director as they arise
  • Assist Farm Manager with backup staffing for CSA, farmers market, etc. as needed
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with event planning and management
  • Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, including flexibility and respect in communicating across language barriers
  • Ability to communicate effectively in-person and in writing
  • Computer literacy and ability to use spreadsheets for recording and sorting data
  • Ability to work cooperatively and independently.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather and to lift 30 pounds
  • Flexible work hours: must be available for evenings and weekends
  • Also desirable: 
    • Experience with grant writing and/or grants management
    • Knowledge about commercial or home vegetable production or urban food systems
